About
Mi-Trek
Mi-Trek is a Canberra based high technology software development
company.
The
company is part of Hindmarsh (www.hindmarsh.com.au),
a diverse Canberra-based group operating Australia wide and
overseas in construction, development, car-parking management,
aged care facilities and venture capital. We are located in
Hindmarsh’s head office in Canberra
.
The Mi-Trek tracking system uses GPS to locate the vehicles
and GPRS to transmit the location data to the central server.
Users can track their vehicles in real time through the sophisticated
interface, accessible through any web browser with Java™
loaded.
The extensive reporting functions and the possibility of exporting
data for users in other applications allow users to efficiently
manage their fleet. The product also has anti-theft capabilities.
One of the distinguishing figures of the Mi-Trek product is
the fact that the company can fully customise it for the specific
needs of customers. This allows Mi-Trek to offer advanced
Telemetry/Telematics solutions.
Mi-Trek’s Customers
The
Mi-Trek system has been used Australia-wide and in New Zealand
since 2002. Our Customer base is very varied, using our system
for a number of different applications, as shown in the examples
below. Our customers include:
•
BHP Billiton Iron Ore: In September 2005,
BHPB Iron Ore (WA) approached Mi-Trek in search of a GPS system
that could accurately detect if a locomotive had entered an
exclusion zone, and then if it had entered an exclusion zone
to automatically apply the emergency brakes, avoiding a potential
incident.
Mi-Trek
implemented a system, based on its current remote vehicle
tracking system allowing geofences to trigger an output switch
– connected to the emergency brake in the locomotive.
In consultation with BHPB, Mi-Trek also implemented two failsafe
options so that the switch could be overridden when required,
timeout function, and a driver acknowledgement button for
the driver to press so that the locomotive could be moved
out of the exclusion zone.
BHPB
Iron Ore also uses the Mi-Trek Real-Time Vehicle Tracking
System on its selected locomotives and compressor cars to
provide valuable logistics data to help prevent delays in
the Iron Ore supply chain.
•
Department of Main Roads of Western Australia:
In late 2006, the Department of Main Roads in Western Australia
issued an open tender for a GPS Fleet Management system for
collecting road usage information and provide fleet management
analysis data.
Mi-Trek
won this tender due to the excellent quality of the system,
including its innovative data compression technology, keeping
operating costs low, particularly important for the significant
amount of road usage data collected and downloaded from each
vehicle.
•
